August Evening Beer....with a little running thrown in

Simon R has been sampling the best scenery, races and beer that Devon has on offer and shares his experiences with us here

Great Links Flyer Fell Race 25Aug

Another short sharp shock to the system....just under five miles and 360m of climb over moorland that with the recent rain is beginning to get a bit spongy again.

The route included six tors and a lovely splashy river crossing. A light drizzle with no wind made for perfect conditions and a beautiful evening.

Fourth-place finish in the V60cat in 50 minutes was my best placing in the series... maybe I'm getting better at this bumpy stuff.

All topped off with a relaxing drink in the Fox and Hounds.

Lustleigh 10k

Another hot race...a mid day start on August Bank Holiday Monday with hardly a cloud in the sky can mean only one thing. Mind you, give it a couple of months and we'll all be dreaming of hot sunny days.

The Lustleigh run is a mostly off road route, with plenty of hills (300 metres of ascent), and according to the race blurb, lots of mud....absolutely none to be seen this year!

It starts in the centre of the Lustleigh Showground....think dog and agricultural show with food, drink and craft stalls, as well as loads for the kids to enjoy. Your race entry gets you into the show for the day too. The route quickly climbs up and around the woods of Lustleigh, down into the valley, across a stunning old bridge in the middle of the woods, only to climb again, before heading you back to the showground.

With two well placed water stations and a troop of fantastic marshals to cheer you on at every smallest junction, it is a very well organised and friendly affair.
