Lindsey Joins World Record Attempt

On Saturday 27th May Lindsey met Jay Flett who was attempting to become

the fastest female to run the South West Coast Path. The current record

stood at 18 days, 14 hours.

The SWCP is 630 miles long and begins in Minehead Somerset and finishes

at South Haven Point near Poole in Dorset.

Lindsey had been following Jay since she began her adventure on Sunday

14th May and hoped to cheer her on as she came through Berry Head. So at

6.15 am Saturday Lindsey went to Berry Head where she met Jay’s partner

Rob who invited her to run with Jay. How could she refuse?

A few minutes later Jay arrived and they both set off. As they chatted Jay explained how she

started running in 2016, completed the C25K in March 2017, ran her first

marathon later that year and hasn’t stopped running since.

The record attempt had been two years in the planning and Jay was

determined to smash the world record which she did! She completed this epic

adventure on the evening of Tuesday 30 th May in a new fastest known time of

16 days, 16 hours and 14 minutes, averaging one and a half marathons each

day.

Susan also managed to meet Jay the same morning and ran with her at

Goodrington Beach before going on to parkrun.

Lindsey felt honoured to have met this amazing, inspirational woman, such an

incredible feat of determination and what an achievement.

Lindsey has vowed never to grumble about the Mansands hill in the future!
