Off to a Flying start in 2023

Now that the Christmas decorations are back in the loft, its time for some running action! Here's a run down of what Brixham Harriers have been up to so far this year...

7th Jan Parkrun take-over

Park run is a free weekly timed 5k run open to everyone, its a wonderful initiative that was started in 2004 at Bushey Park, and has since spread around the UK and beyond. The Torbay parkrun is held at the Velopark in Paignton and has been in existence for around 5 years. Like all other park runs it is run entirely by volunteers and held each Saturday at 9am. Its a firm-favourite with the Harriers of course and this week the club put on a special effort to give the regular volunteers a break and take-over the course set-up, marshalling and time keeping.

As can be judged form our attire, we chose the wettest and windiest Saturday for a long time, but our spirits weren't dampened and 180 participants were duly marshalled and timed across the finishing line.

If you would like some help and encouragement to start, or get back into, running

the Harriers have a beginners Couch to 5k course starting next week. We will follow the NHS Couch to 5k programme and over the course of nine weeks we will help you get your running off to a solid start, culminating in a celebration parkrun, with cakes and medals! see here for details!

First Chance 10k

A mild but wet and windy day saw the first race of the year "First Chance Exeter". Thankfully the rain stopped just after the start & held off for the duration.

The course is fast & quite scenic 10k race along the river and canal so has PB potential, although with 700 runners there was congestion at the start and finish and the facilities strained to cope. Nevertheless Nicky, Mandy Susan and Charlotte, braved the elements negotiated the queues and chalked up some valuable points for the 2023 Club Championship!
